The Newark Congregational Churches are independent organizations but are affiliated with the Northern New Jersey Association of Congregational Churches. Although the first Newark church was a congregational one, it was not affiliated with the ones organized after 1834 and is generally thought of as a Presbyterian Church (which it officially became in 1720).
